Building G01 is the first building in the Fuzja complex to combine the existing historical fabric with a residential function in the form of a contemporary, simple multi-family building surrounded by history. A multi-threaded analysis of the conditions and technical condition of the existing building led to the concept of ‘box in box’, which defies the typical definition of adaptation and conservation of monuments.

The building appears as a ‘matryoshka doll’, inside which a simple structure is created, connected by a structure of braces, terraces and balconies, with the old façade. In this way, literally and figuratively, we wanted to connect the past with the present, preserving the element of history from the outside, and in the space ‘in between’, we wanted to create a zone sheltered by history, a semi-private space for new tenants.

During the works, valuable, multi-coloured polychromes with floral motifs, unique to industrial buildings, were discovered. The need to preserve these paintings in situ contributed to the deepening of the adopted idea through the concept of a ‘drawer’ inserted into the building’s volume, thus combining functional and historical values.

As a result, we are bringing another building from Scheibler’s empire back to life, conducting an honest and courageous dialogue between history and the present day.
